Events organized by AMES

Aviyantaa is an annual event organized by Association of Mechanical Engineering Students (AMES), the club of Department of Mechanical Engineering(DoME), Kathmandu University. It comprises of numerous events such as release of departmental yearbook, exhibition of undergraduate student projects, alumni meet, two and four wheelers display with test drives, photography competition etc. The main objective of Aviyantaa is to provide exposure of credit project performed by the undergraduate students at DoME, KU. So far AMES has successfully organized Aviyantaa for five consecutive years, namely Aviyantaa’14, Aviyantaa’15, Aviyantaa’16, Aviyantaa’17 and Aviyantaa’18. Five volumes of the departmental yearbook also titled ‘Aviyantaa’ have been released so far. The yearbook comprises of project abstracts of undergraduate students with technical articles.
Team MembersAviyantaa – being the biggest even in the Kathmandu University premises – consists not only of Executive AMES members but also general members from different batch. It takes a whole year to plan and execute all the xyz to make it successful.
AMES organizes various games throughout the year including but not limited to football, cricket, basketball, badminton, table tennis, chess.
Football tournament is the biggest event organized by AMES. It is an yearly event where each section makes a team. There is a culture of first game between fourth year and faculties where inauguration is done by HoD of DoME striking the ball.
Basketball is one of the highly regarded outdoor game organized by AMES every year. Similar to football tournament, a team is formed from each section.
In a similar fashion, Cricket is also one of the biggest event organized by AMES.
Why mechanical engineering?
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and oldest branches of engineering. Mechanical engineers are involved in broad aspects but not limited to the design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, control, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It also deals with transformation of thermal energy into useful work. Mecahnical engineering has 4 sub-divisions in Kathmandu University namely Automobile, Design and Manufacturing, Energy, and Hydropower.
What is AMES?
Established in 2002 A.D., AMES is a student wing of Mechanical Engineering students. AMES conducts various activities collaboration with other clubs within the university and engineering associations outside the university like Nepal Society of Mechanical Engineering Students (SOMES). AMES also collaborates with different governmental and non-governmental agencies to organize awareness and advocacy programs.
