Introduction

Aviyantaa is an annual event organized by Association of Mechanical Engineering Students (AMES), the student’s club of Department of Mechanical Engineering (DoME), Kathmandu University. The main objective of Aviyantaa is to provide exposure of credit project performed by the undergraduate students at DoME, KU. So far AMES has successfully organized Aviyantaa for five consecutive years, namely Aviyantaa’14, Aviyantaa’15, Aviyantaa’16 and Aviyantaa’17, Aviyantaa’18 in November 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively. Five volumes of the departmental yearbook also titled ‘Aviyantaa’ have been released so far. The yearbook comprises of project abstracts of undergraduate students with technical articles. The visitors mainly comprises of guests from Ministry/Government, Vice Chancellor, Registrar Professors of KU and NTNU and respected delegates of KU, University Students, KU, DoME alumni, our sponsors, university teaching and non-teaching staff and representatives of many different colleges from inside and outside Kathmandu Valley.

Aviyantaa’19 is being organized on 27th and 28th November, 2019. It will comprise of numerous events such as release of yearbook of department, project exhibition of undergraduate students of DoME, two wheelers and four wheelers display with test drives, photography competition, gaming events, alumini reunion ‘HOMECOMMING’, career placement etc. The departmental yearbook also titled “Aviyantaa’19” which will the sixth issue of its kind.

Aviyantaa’18

Aviyantaa’18 was organized by AMES on 28th and 29th November, 2018. It comprised numerous events such as release of yearbook of department, project exhibition of undergraduate student of DoME, two wheelers display with test drives, photography competition, gaming events, magic shows, etc. The departmental yearbook also titled “Aviyantaa’18” was the fifth issue of its kind. The inauguration of the program was held in collaboration with the 7th anniversary of Turbine Testing Laboratory, inaugurated by representatives from the university itself and from NTNU, Norway. Aviyantaa’18 was inaugurated by the chief guest Prof. Dr. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug, professor at NTNU along with Dean of School of Engineering and HoD of DoME. The program was attended by a total of 5000 visitors.

It comprised numerous events such as release of yearbook of department, exhibition of undergraduate student projects, two and four wheelers display with test drives, alumni meet, photography competition etc. The departmental yearbook also titled “Aviyantaa’16” was the third issue of its kind. The inauguration of the program was held in collaboration with the 5th anniversary of Turbine Testing Laboratory, inaugurated by representatives from the university itself and from NTNU, Norway. The program was attended by a total of 4500 visitors. A total of 22 sponsors contributed to the release of this volume.

Aviyantaa’15 was held on 26 November, 2015 in Block-8 School of Engineering(SOE), Kathmandu University. The event marked the release of Aviyantaa’15- the 2nd issue of the Yearbook of the department. The release of the books were done amidst a formal program held at Turbine Testing Lab (TTL) Mini Auditorium among the KU officials and guests from Norway and Japan while the undergraduate students demonstrated their project works through product demo, poster presentations and slide shows.

Aviyantaa for the first time was organized by AMES on 18 November, 2014 at Block 8, School of Engineering. Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha inaugurated the event. Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa released the pioneer issue of the project compendium Aviyantaa’14 amidst a formal ceremony. Aviyantaa – being the biggest event in the Kathmandu University premises – consists not only of Executive AMES members but also general members from different batch. It takes a whole year to plan and execute all the xyz to make it successful.
