ANSYS Training and Workshop conducted by AMES

Association of Mechanical Engineering Students (AMES) organized a 6-days ANSYS Training and Workshop from 28th September to 4th October 2018. The training was provided in TTL Hall-B by Dr. Sailesh ChitrakarEr. Atmaram Kayastha and Er. Dadiram Dahal from Turbine Testing Lab, Kathmandu University.

The students of mechanical engineering were in need of ANSYS Training. Thus, the training was planned and taking the feedback from previous events, the event was planned for 30 participants. However, the craze and demand for the training was outrageous and the seats had to be added and finally the training was conducted for 40 participants along with the promise to conduct the same event again for those who were unable to attend the training due to limited seats. Similarly, the training was originally planned open to all. However, the maximum number of participants willing to participate in the program would cause difficulty in conducting the program. So, in this phase, only AMES Members of fourth years were given eligibility to participate.

Again, the trainers of the programs were teachers and faculties from Turbine Testing Lab who could not give us many days due to their busy schedule and some of whom would have to travel in bus and could not give time after 4:00 PM. In order to solve this problem, the schedule was made such that the classes of the participants were not disturbed as well as one trainer would have to give about 2 days (about 3 hours) and the timing was managed such that one could leave at their respecting time.

The program started at 28th September 2018 Friday in TTL. On this day, selection of participants was done and installation of the ANSYS software on each participants was done. On this day, with the assist from Er. Malesh Shah, AMES Coordinator, all the works were done by AMES Volunteers such as Mr. Sagar Thapa, Mr. Keshav Verma, Mr. Sanjeep Pokharel and Mr. Manish Adhikari. Conducting the installation program on Friday let the participants to install the program with no hurry and they could look and practice basics on Saturday as no training was planned for Saturday. Then the training actually started from 30th September Sunday at 2:00 PM. The first session was 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM provided by Dr. Sailesh Chitrakar who gave participants the introuduction, and basic knowledge of ANSYS. Then the day was continued from 3:30 to 5:00 PM by Er. Atmaram Kayastha who provided the basic knowledge of CFD and meshing. The next day, Monday, the program started at 4:00 PM by Er. Kayastha who completed CFD and showed the participants to make the pre and post CFX.

Similarly, Tuesday, the session was taken by Er. Dadiram Dahal who started at 2:00 PM with FEM and continued with structural part of ANSYS up to 5:00 PM. The same session was continued and completed by Er. Dahal the next day (Wednesday). Now, the FES session was given by Dr. Chitrakar on Thursday from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. For the formal ending of the program, AMES Coordinator Er. Shah and Prof. Dr. Hari Pd. Neopane, Associate Dean of SOE (former HOD of DoME) were invited who provided token of love and certificate of appreciation on behalf of AMES.

Although the demand of the training was high, the program was well managed and conducting of the same program again for those who have missed has been planned. The program was held on TTL Hall – B which is one of the best venue for conducting the program due to the comfortable and easily reachable place. The program was a grand success and AMES would like to heartly thank specially Dr. Chitrakar, Er. Kayastha and Er. Dahal for their most valuable time and contribution for making this program possible. Similarly, AMES would like to thank all the participants and supporters for making contributing in any way to make this program a success.
